Renovation in Menorca

This project reinterprets a traditional Menorcan residence through a contemporary lens, balancing rustic architectural character with a modern, restrained aesthetic. The design retains the building’s inherent simplicity while introducing industrial materials softened through careful proportions, natural light, and tactile finishes. Existing stone walls and structural elements inform the spatial strategy, with interventions kept honest and minimal. Raw materials such as concrete, steel, and lime plaster are paired with warm timber joinery and natural textures, creating a calm domestic environment that tempers the industrial palette. The contrast between rough and refined surfaces is central to the project, allowing the house to feel both grounded and contemporary. As Architect and Project Manager, I led the project from concept through construction, producing measured drawings, detailed design documentation, and bespoke joinery designs. Close collaboration with local contractors and ongoing site involvement ensured the design intent was maintained while responding pragmatically to the realities of renovation.
